A club house and ambitious plans for the future where on the agenda as representatives from the Touring Club Malta (TCM) Committee called on the
Hon. Lawrence Gonzi, Prime Minister, as part of its 25th Anniversary celebrations.
Speaking about the club’s present offorts, Dr Ph. Agius, founder and chairman of the club, explained that the TCM had recently inaugurated a touring office at the Radisson BLU Hotel, St.Julians, so that it could offer its touring information and assistance to the FIA tourists in Malta.
Since it was founded in 1984, the Touring Club Malta has endeavoured to assist the AIT/FIA tourists visiting Malta, focusing specifically on improving road safety to reduce fatalities on Maltese roads. To this end the TCM, a non-profit-making NGO, was the first organization to sign the EU Road Safety Charter in 2007.
The Club is a Member within the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), and recommended the appointment of Profs Emeritus Guido De Marco and Dr. Michael Grech as FIA –International Court of Appeal Judges, both of whom were elected this year.
